April 21, 2008 IBU Meeting Minutes

    * Meeting called to order by President Steve Becker at 7:03 PM CDT.

    * March meeting minutes were approved.
    * Style of the Month - Extract Beers
          o Vanessa Kinnear - Oatmeal Stout
    * Home Brew suppliers:
          o Greg Mangold – American Pale Ale w/Honey
          o Steve Becker - Dark Wheat w/Bearing Beer
          o Brian Sabus - Smoked Porter
          o George Patten - American Ale
          o Lindsey Wanerscheild -Silver Dollar Porter
    * If anyone can not make their JCHH rotation, contact Perry Grant.  He is interested in serving at JCHH.
    * Ancy Cleghorhn and Adam Draeger are both hosting Big Brew Days on May 3rd.
    * Amana Brewfest is August 31st.  Let Lauri Glasgow know if you are interested in serving.
    * The Des Moines Brew Fest is 6/14 at Hessian House.  Contact Brian Sabus if you want to serve or if you have an EZ Up shelter.
    * ABL meetings last Tuesday of the month at Old Main.
    * The BJCP Mead certification testing will be held in conjunction with ABL Mead Day.  Date TBD.
    * Matt Melcher brought in Fuggle and Kent Golding rhizomes.
    * Motion to raise Brewer of the Month reimbursement from $20 to $25 was passed.  Begins in May.
    * ABL Granite City tour on May 10th.  Contact Mike Young or Paul Wanerscheild if you are interested. 
    * If you have not paid your 2007 – 2008 IBU dues, ante up.  You can pay via PayPal, check, cash, or Krugerrands.  The payee for PayPal is ibutreasurer at gmail.com.  The pro-rated amount for the remainder of 2008 is $12 USD.
    * There is some Rauch malt remaining from the smoked brews for the Bacon Fest.  If you are interested in brewing a smoked beer, contact Steve Becker.
    * There is a new website for Lift the Limit - Lift The Limit .

    * IBU Oktobefest - No one is too keen on having the Oktoberfest at Bevington.  Currently, the desirable Saturdays are taken at Walnut Woods.  This means we will either have to switch the Oktoberfest venue or have it on a Sunday.  Someone is looking into the availability of Walker Johnson park.
    * The Style of the month for May is Cream Ale.  Brewers of month are Paul and Lindsey Wanderscheid.
    * General melee declared at 8:01 PM CDT.
    * Tabled Motions
          o Jan 2008 - Lauri Glasgow  suggested that we  have the 2008  Christmas  Party at the Red Monk.
          o Brian Lenderts motion for the club to purchase a 6 tap jockey box from Beer Crazy.
    * Awaiting Closure
          o Mar - John Martin is contacting Fritz Maytag about speaking to the IBU.
          o Feb - Jeff offered to open the Red Monk for a DRAW.  He suggested that we can bring in beers those special beers that we have been hoarding, share them with your fellow brewers.  Any preferences for days/dates?
          o Pub crawl/bus trip
          o IBU Oktoberfest location/date.

          o We need to get petitions to other beer stores and events.
          o Lift the limit banner to events.
          o What does lifting the limit mean to retailers, brew pubs, breweries?
