[IBU] Anyone use a water filter?

I think the biggest concern of a 'regular' garden hose vs. an RV garden hose is that most regular ones contain lead.

Re: [IBU] Anyone use a water filter?
Everything I’ve read is rather
correct. I’m not sure whether a filter is THAT much better but
certainly it help this spring … I think…

I use one of those cheap reel up hoses so I
can easily bring it indoors during the winter. I also make sure all the
water is out of it before I bring it in. Standing water in the hose may
be a larger culprit than the hose itself.

I have used a water filter for
years. At the time I think it made a difference, but I haven't not used
one for so long I don't know anymore. I am using something similar to
what you mentioned. Before I moved I used regular hoses. Then I got
one that had such a harsh rubber smell to the water that came out of it, I
switched to the white RV ones. If you read the label on most garden hoses
they say they are not for potable water. Probably more of a liability
disclosure than anything, but I know I could taste the rubber flavor from the
one hose I bought - even with the carbon filter.

Thanks Mike. Several of the posts
I've read online mention people using the white RV hoses for their brew
setup. Apparently, they are more expensive but people don't experience
any "hose" flavor from them. Of course I've also seen posts
where people use regular garden hoses without any problems.

I started using a cartridge filter for my brewing
system and really saw
an improvement--especially in the spring when the Des Moines Water Works
treats the water so heavily.

As a follow-up, does anyone that brews outside use special hoses? I
always use a standard garden hose that feeds into the filter. I figure
the filter takes care of any off-flavors the hose might impart, but am
wondering if replacing it with something food-grade is worth it.
