May 13, 2008 IBU Meeting Minutes

 

    * Meeting called to order by Vice President Brian Sabus at 7:11 PM CDT.
    * 2008/2009 IBU dues are due, ante up.  The amoun is $25.00.  You can pay via PayPal, check, cash, or Krugerrands.  The payee for PayPal is ibutreasurer at gmail.com.

    * April meeting minutes were approved with correction to Brefest date, June 14th, not June 13th.
    * Style of the Month - Cream Ale
          o Paul and Lindsey Wanderscheid - Cream Ale
    * Home Brew suppliers:
          o Matt Bradford – American Pale Ale
          o Steve Breman - Fat Tire Clone
          o Lauri Glassgow - Oatmeal Coffe Stout
          o Brian Sabus - Alt Beer
          o Steve Becker - Wheat
    * Amana Brewfest is August 31st.  Let Lauri Glasgow know if you are interested in serving, or if you need additional info.
    * The Des Moines Brew Fest is 6/14 at the old Des Moines Brewing Company.  Brian Sabus is the contact for this.  Let him know if you would like to serve your beer at this event.
    * There is some Rauch malt remaining from the smoked brews for the Bacon Fest.  Club grain will be distributed at a future meeting. 
    * IBU Oktobefest - It was decided to book Walker Johnson parkfor Sep 20th, beginning at 5:00 PM.  The deposit is $75.00.
    * The June meeting will be Monday June 16th at Raccoon River BrewingCompany.  The brewer of the month is Dave Coy.  Note, please do not bring any home brew to this meeting.
    * The preiously tabled motion to purchase a 6 tap jockey box from Beer Crazy was approved.  Mike Edwards mad an additional motion to a 6 way CO2 splitter from Beer Crazy, which was also approved.
    * Steve Becker had a favorable review of Golden City Brewing, in Golden CO.
    * Dcott Dennis had a favorable review of Free State Brewing.
    * General melee declared at 7:46 PM CDT.
    * Tabled Motions
          o Jan 2008 - Lauri Glasgow  suggested that we  have the 2008  Christmas  Party at the Red Monk.
    * Awaiting Closure
          o Mar - John Martin is contacting Fritz Maytag about speaking to the IBU.
          o Feb - Jeff offered to open the Red Monk for a DRAW.  He suggested that we can bring in beers those special beers that we have been hoarding, share them with your fellow brewers.  Any preferences for days/dates?
          o Pub crawl/bus trip
          o IBU Oktoberfest location/date.
    * Upcoming Events
          o Chris Priebe - Millstream Brewing Speaking at May?? meeting.
          o Amana BrewFest Aug 31st
          o State Fair Home Brew Contest
          o June 14 - Des Moines Brew Fest at the Hessian House
          o The BJCP Mead certification testing will be held in conjunction with ABL Mead Day.  Date TBD.
          o July meeting, Peter from Worth Brewing will be speaking at the IBU meeting.
    * Recurring
          o JCHH - Thursday Nights at 6 PM at el Bait Shop
          o ABL - Meeting at Old Maine - 4th Tuesday of the month
    * Lift the Limit
          o liftthelimit.com is up and has an on-line petition, thanks to Joe Stutler.
          o Anyone know if Mike England will give up liftthelimit.org?
          o Mark Nauman has a petition at Beer Crazy
          o We need to get petitions to other beer stores and events.
          o Lift the limit banner to events.
          o What does lifting the limit mean to retailers, brew pubs, breweries?
          o There is a new website for Lift the Limit - Lift The Limit .
          o The State Representative from Sioux City is a home brewer.
