Here's a link to the pictures of my new 10 gallon brew system:
http://www.mikebeer.net/10gallon.htm I'll be making the website a
little better in the next few days, but for now the simple photo gallery
will do.
My first brew with the new system (a brown porter) went pretty well. I
was done with everything in under 5 hours, which is about an hour longer
than my standard 5 gallon brew day was. I had some difficulty at times
getting the pump flowing, but I eventually got it working when I needed
it. The chiller worked pretty well, but I started filling my first
bucket when the wort wasn't quite cool enough. Once I increased the
garden hose pressure, that helped drop the temp more for the second
bucket. The first one was at 83 and the second was at 72. I put both
buckets into my temp controlled fridge, set at 60, to cool down so I can
pitch the yeast. I'm using some US-05 in one bucket and S-04 in
another. My volume was also a little low. I ended up filling one
bucket to about 5 gallons and the other to 4. Not a big deal, but
something to remember for next time. I'll adjust my brewing software
based on what I found out today.
Overall, I was a pretty good brew day. I did burn myself a couple times
while cleaning the boil kettle and after heating up some water and
flushing all my tubing, but nothing too bad. I burned my leg on the
kettle while I was taking it outside, and when I went to dump out the
little bit of water left in the boil kettle, I was wearing sandals and
it splashed on my foot. Not the best feeling, but it could have been
worse. That's something to keep in mind for the next batch anyway.
