I did send something to my state rep (Walt Tomenga) and state sen (Larry Noble).  Walt indicated he was interested in what I was sharing.  He also inquired as to what the specifics were on wine – particularly fortified wine as an example.  I indicated that Iowa classifies wine from 6-17% so perhaps any wine above 17% is also taxed as liquor?  Does anyone know the specific Iowa code on this for me to share w/ him?
 
Everyone else – email you reps and senators.  Very easy and you have nothing to lose.  In fact, I would believe they enjoy hearing from people in regards to a very interesting piece of legislation.  Instead of talking real politics, they get to discuss beer for awhile.  I always enjoy that piece of agenda myself – why wouldn’t they?

There is no national Lift the Limit effort. The lift the limit website that Mike England originally started does live on in a needing attention form at www.liftthelimit.org
 
North Carolina was successful in lifting their limit and there is information available at www.popthecap.org and especially at http://www.popthecap.org/?page_id=2 for the history of what they did.
 
Alabama is working hard to lift their limit: see www.freethehops.org
 
Anyone that has actually talked and/or gotten responses from their legislators please let me know. I’d like to compile information to co-ordinate with what has turned out to be a not very effective effort on my part for the Iowa Brewers Guild (our Professional brewers special interest group).
 
Who was it that recently said there was a “funnel” deadline last week for legislation?

Is there a national Lift the Limit effort?  If so, anyone have a link?  If not, what are the best state Lift the Limit sites?  I am asking because I receive a reply from my State Representative from my Lift the Limit email.  She seems very positive and potentially helpful to our cause.  I would like to incorporate these links into a follow up email.
 
Also, I seem to remember reading or hearing something about a second brewery (besides Millstream) in Iowa.  Can anyone confirm this and provide information if this is correct?
 
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE take ten minutes to identify and contact your State Senator and State Representative about Lifting the Limit in Iowa.  All the information you need is at teh IBU website, www.iowabrewersunion.org. You can copy the letter verbatim, just change the signature.  We have some momentum, let's build on it and get the limit raised.
 
Anyone with contacts to other Iowa home brew clubs, please get them involved.
