Here is a flyer I did for Lift the Limit. Pleas look it over and let me know how to improve it. I plan on taking some copies to el Bait Shop for today's Central Iowa Trail meeting. If you want the word do, let me know. I will also post it to the IBU website, www.iowabrewersunion.org.

Cheers,
Randle

Lift the Limit

Current Iowa law limits beer is to 5% Alcohol By Weight (ABW). Thus, many craft, micro, and specialty brews are classified as liquor. This forces beers with an alcohol content above 5% into the state's distribution system for liquor. While this distribution system may work for liquor, it does not work well for beer. As a result of this distribution system, many craft and micro breweries will not distribute their product in Iowa. It is common for beer aficionados to stock up with craft beer when visiting Omaha, Kansas City, Minneapolis, and Chicago, all of which have less onerous legislation for the distribution of beer. This results in lost revenue for the state, and Iowa breweries and brew pubs suffer a competitive disadvantage.

The ABW limit for wine was recently increased to 17% ABW. We ask that the ABW limit for beer be set the same as it is for wine. It appears revising this legislation would be rather easy. Iowa District 31 Representative Ray Zirkelbach will be introducing such legislation during this session. We ask that contact your State Representative and State Senator to let them know that you favor this legislation and ask them for their support in this effort.
