The next meeting of the Iowa Brewers Union is October 15th, 2007, 7:00PM CDT at the Holicay Inn near the intersection of I35 and Merle Hay Rd.  Bring your homebrewing questions, tips, tricks, reviews, for sale items, and finished product.

Meeting called to order at 7:04 PM by John Martin, President.
August meeting minutes were approved.
Treasurer’s report – We have some money in our account.  Details on table.
Please pay Adam for any outstanding 2007/2008 dues and for the clothing order.  The PayPal account is ibutreasurer at gmail.com.
Leo is putting together a grain order.  Let him know if you want something.  
Adam passed around a signup sheet for BYO magazine.  Through this special, a subscription is only $13/yr.  Payment must be made by 9/25/2007.
Entries for the ‘Club Only’ bock are due by 10/1/2007.  
The Brewers of the Month were Jim Bergusson and  and Steve Becker.  The style was Europeanamber Lager.  Others bringing fine malted beverages were:
Chuck ( from Raccoon River Brew Club – via Lauri Glasgow) – Northern Brown

Mike Edwards will once again coordinate IBU’s Octoberfest celebration.  The date is September 29th at the Walnut Woods lodge.  A sigh up sheet was passed around.  Both el Bait Shop, Jeff Bruning, and Raccoon River Brewing Company, Dave Coy, will be providing kegs of Octoberfest beer.  Thanks guys!!  Octoberfest Set up will commence at 10:00 AM at the lodge.  Help with set up is needed and will be greatly appreciated.  The festivities officially begin at 1:00 PM.  The shelter must be cleaned up and closed down by 10:00 PM.
Mike Edwards will also be organizing a Pub Crawl bus trip.  Watch for details.
There will be an American Homebrewers Association (AHA) Rally, in conjunction with Teach a Friend to Brew Day, at Raccoon River Brewing Company on November 3, 2007.  If you are interested in being involved, email Dave at dcoy at raccoon.com.

Schlieswig homebrew/homewine competition is happening in October.
Des Moines Octoberfest  - September 21st and 22nd at the Hessian Haus.  Admission is $8.  Beer tickets $4.  Tapping of the Golden Keg is 3 PM Friday.
Remember Jimmy Carter Happy Hours at el Bait Shop, Thursdays at 6:00 PM CDT.  If you are interested in providing home brew, contact Jeff at jlbruning at yahoo.com.
El Bait Shop is going to serve as many Octoberfest varieties as possible during the month of October. 
Dave Coy will also be tapping the Octoberfest at Raccoon River, either later this week or next week.
The October Brewer of the Month is bill Stuart.  The Style of the Month is Pilsner, BJCP category 2, Including Octoberfest and Marzen.  We are still looking for another Brewer of the Month for October.
The next IBU meeting will be Monday, October 15th, 7 PM at the Holiday Inn on Merle Hay Rd.
