I have a correction to make. The brewery review was for the Detroit
Beer Company. My bad.

Again, all beers were very good.
Thanks.

May 21, 2007 IBU Meeting Minutes

*	Meeting called to order by President John Martin at 7:02 PM CDT.
*	April minutes were approved.
*	Leo will be picking up the clothing order this week. There are
still
some people that have not paid for their clothing order.
*	Adam Draeger passed around the Treasurer's Report.
*	2007 - 2008 IBU dues are due in June. You can pay via PayPal,
check,
cash, or Krugerrands. The payee for PayPal is ibutreasurer at gmail.com.
Perhaps someone can supply the amount for yearly dues.
*	Elections for Treasurer and Vice President are in July. If you
wish to
run for either of these highly rewarding positions, make your intentions
know to one of the current officers before the July meeting.
*	Home Brew suppliers:
o	Brian Sabus was our lone brewer of the month, with Ordinary
Bitter.
o	Brian Sabus - Vanilla Porter
o	Steve Becker - White Out Cream Ale
o	Steve Becker - Blizzard Brown
o	Jim Burgeson - Sam Adams Pale Ale clone
*	June Brewer of the Month is Dave Coy, as the meeting will be
held at
Raccoon River Brewing Company on June 18th. There were numerous
favorable reviews of his Mai Bock.
*	The category of the month for July has been changed to OPEN from
Strong
Ale.
*	Congratulations to Mark Simpson and John Marting for their
palcings at
the first round of the Home Brew Nationals. Mark's Mild and American
IPA both finished 3rd. John's Bock took first. Good luck in the second
round.
Nationals are 6/20-23.
*	Steve Becker had a very positive review of the Brick House
Brewery in
Detroit. He was especially smitten with the brown and managed to get
the recipe. If you are interested in a copy of the recipe, let him
know.
*	Jeff Brunning and Sam Tuttle of el Bait Shop were our guests
this
evening. Jeff spoke of the upcoming brewfest on 6/23, how he wishes to
support homebrewing, and other brewing news tidbits.
o	Jeff is inviting the local brew clubs to pour 1 ounce samples of
up to
20 different home brews at the brewfest. Four kegs would be on tap for
an hour, then would be swapped out with four different kegs. The brewer
will pour and will be responsible for CO2. Ice will be provided by the
el Bait Shop. Anyone
bringing a keg will get free admission to the brewfest. Homebrew will
probably
be poured during the first of two sessions. There was a motion to
include brews brought to IBU promotional events, such as the brewfest,
to be eligible for the $50 Northern Brewer gift certificate.
o	Tentative brewers/brews are:
	Brian Sabus - Vanilla Porter or Kolsch
	Brian Lenderts - IPA2
	John Martin - American Wheat or American IPA
	Steve Becker - Norther German Alt
	Lauri Glasgow - Coffee Porter
	Adam Draeger - Blonde Sticke Alt
o	Jeff will provide a link to the IBU website from the el Bait
Shop
website.
o	Jeff would also like to something similar on Thursday evenings,
either
on a weekly or monthly basis. The only difference being that only one
keg would be sampled on a Thursday event. The Thursday event would also
feature a DJ spinning rock.
o	Jeff is making the el Bait Shop beer menu a little more dynamic.
He is
adding another tap for Raccoon River and taps for a new Iowa brewery (
didn't get the name). He also has taps for Amana, and Capitol City. He
offered to put IBU, RRBC, and ABL info on the back of the new beer
menus.
o	The newly formed Iowa Brewers Guild is working on the "Lift the
Limit"
initiative.
o	You won't bee seeing anymore Bells Two Hearted Pale Ale at your
local
Dahls. It appears that this rather tasty beverage exceeds the arcane
Iowa alcohol limit for malted beverages. A prime example of why we need
to support the "Lift the Limit" initiative.
