Iowa Brewers Union Meeting Minutes
July 17, 2007
Meeting called to order at 7:08 PM by John Martin, President.
There was a motion that was brought up in May, to give guest speakers an IBU t-shirt, or comparable token of the clubs appreciation. This motion was voted on, and passed.
A big thinks to Dave Coy for hosting the June meeting and providing some tasty brew and appetizers for the June meeting.
Another big thanks to Jeff Bruning, of el Bait Shop, for inviting us to the brewfest and being a strong supporter of home brewing and Iowa based brewers. Jeff is planning a couple of special events to coincide with the introduction of Fat Tire into Iowa.
Elections for Vice President and Treasurer. Brian Sabus and Doug Lay were both nominated, with Brian winning by the narrowest of margins. So far, there have not been accusations of voter fraud, hanging chad, or a request for a hand re-count of ballots. Adam Draeger ran unopposed for Treasurer. Congratulations to Brian and Adam!
The Brewer of the Month was our new VP, Brian Sabus. The stle was Brewers Choice. Brian chose a Saison. Others bringing fine malted beverages were:
Mark McAndrews Cream Ale
Brian Lenerdts American Pale Ale
John Martin Heles
Adam Draeger Kolsch
Lauri Glassgow Leftovers

Team Good Beer is a cycling club, riding in Ragbrai, that is sponsored by most of the Iowa brewpubs and breweries. Their mission is to promote quality beer, not the tepid swill consumed by most Ragbrai clubs.
Mike Edwards can get a bus for a local pub crawl for the cost of gas.
Mike Gauthier was the guest speaker for the month of July. He talked about his background, his brewing ideas, the effort to improve Iowas arcane beer distribution laws, self distribution for brew pubs, and passing the Native Brewery law. Everyone appeared to enjoy his talk, and he was offered an open invitation to speak at meetings.
Mike Edwards brought up a proposal for the club to invest in a jockey box. This proposal was tabled.
There was a positive review of the Falling rock Taproom in Denver, which was one of the haunts of IBU members who attended AHA Nationals.
