The Iowa Festival of Beers will be held at Millstream Brewing Company in Amana
on Labor Day Sunday, Sept 2, 2007 from 1-5 pm with a $12 admission.
The admission allows you to take home a souvenir sampling mug to
remember the event from and it can be taken to each of the breweries during the festival to be filled with wonderful samples of Iowa's best. Also as in the past, the proceeds from the admission will go to the Arthritis Foundation in Des Moines to help promote awareness and research for juvenile arthritis. IBU still has two slots available for those wishing to bring beer.
Schlieswig homebrew/homewine competition is happening in October.
George Patten brought in some copies of DRAFT magazine. His review of the magazine was that it the magazine is good for the beer enthusiast, but does not contain enough information for the home brewer.
Jeff Bruning, of el Bait Shop and Full Court Press, had several announcements.
He donated a jockey box to the club. Thanks Jeff1
He is looking for home brewers to provide kegs of home brew for the upcoming Jimmy Carter Happy Hours at el Bait Shop. The happy hours will be a vehicle for introducing the general public to the quality and variety of home brew. Ideally, the brewer will provide one corny keg, and will be available to answer questions about the 1 oz samples that will be given away. This is a great way to promote home brewing, educate the public, and get some exposure for excellent home brew. The first event will be Thursday September 6th at 6:00 PM CDT. If you are interested in providing home brew, contact Jeff at jlbruning at yahoo.com.
El Bait Shop is going to serve as many Octoberfest varieties as possible during the month of October.
Fat tire is coming to el Bait Shop in late August. There will be a Tour de Fat bike ride from el Bait Shop to Cooneys on Sep 8th to commemorate its arrival. There will be specials and a bike raffle.
The Royal Mile has added a chef and will soon be offering chefs dinners paired with beers.
The Septmber Brewers of the Month are John Martin and Becker. The Style of the Month is European Amber Lager, BJCP category 3.
The next IBU meeting will be Monday, September 17th, 7 PM at the Holiday Inn on Merle Hay Rd.
At 7:49 PM, general melee was declared.
