The more things change, the more they stay the same... It is time for
the annual Big Brew, Birthday Bash and BBQ party. This event celebrates
the American Homebrewing Association's Big Brew Day and Mary's birthday.
There will be a homebrewing demonstration along with different beers to
sample and lots of BBQ. Menu will include smoked turkey, pulled pork
sandwiches and smoked pork loin along with side dishes. The brew will
begin with mash in about 11:00 am and the general party will get
underway early afternoon. This will be a joint venture again with help
from both the Raccoon River Brewer's Association and the Iowa Brewers
Union (with some possible support from the Ames Brewers League). For
people that have made it over before, same drill. Very casual. Feel
free to bring some friends along and have a good time. Hope to see you
there!
What: Big Brew, Birthday Bash and BBQ party to celebrate Big Brew Day
and Mary's birthday
When: Saturday, May 5th. Brew starts at 11:00am, party to follow that
will be going on late. Early arrivals are welcome. Stop by have a
Bloody Mary and help set up. Limited breakfast menu may be available.
Where: Andy and Mary's place. We've moved! We are now at 920 52nd Place
in West Des Moines. Take 50th Street south of Ashworth about 3 blocks
and turn back west. Take the 2nd right which is 52nd Place. We are
about 2 blocks down on the left side of the street. Parking has not
improved, so car pool up if you can. You never know what the weather
will do in early May so dress accordingly. If the new brewery is done,
we will brew inside. If not, the brew will be in the garage.
What to bring: Nothing is required. Food and beer will be provided.
Extra beer is always welcome. If you have any homebrew to share,
please bring some. If you are a light beer drinker, you may want to
BYOB - no guarantees on any of that being around. There will be lots of
snack food, but extras are always appreciated. We seem to always be
short on ice. If you want to bring your own brew system and brew with
us, please let me know in advance and I will attempt to make space.
WHAT IS BIG BREW?
Each year on the first Saturday in May, homebrewers unite non-brewing
