We are looking for a volunteer to organize the annual IBU challenge in March.
Bill Van Zante and Mark Simpson are gauging interest in forming study groups for BJCP testing. Bill would lead the Des Moines group while mark would head up the Ames group. The Study groups would meet roughly once a week. The goal is to get more club members BJCP certified. This would be helpful in judging the IBU Challenge. If interested, please let Bill or Mark know ASAP.

Not much is going on with Lift the Limit. We had some ideas, but no activities were assigned.
Mike Edwards will check on the availability of the Walnut Woods shelter for Octoberfest 2007.
Tech Q&A Steve Becker had a question about carbonating a keg. The fastest way is to turn up the gas pressure to 30 psi then shake or roll vigorously. Alternatively, you can use a carbonation stone or maintain a lower gas pressure for a longer duration.
Zach Tremont, the brewer at the new Upstream Brew Pub in Omaha produces some tasty wood aged beers, which he sells in bottles. The next batch will be ready in November. He would be willing to do a tasting, if there is interest.
The IBU/ABL had the best booth at the Iowa Festival of Beers. Kudos to those that manned the booth during the event.
There is a new brew club in Cedar Falls called Craze (rhymes with haze).
Carry Chase, the brewer for Granite City, wants to have a tasting in Ellsworth, IA. He is very interested in involving home brewers in his process.
Dr. Sam Batty, a horticulture professor at ISU is collecting hop rhizomes. He is doing research on hops and is looking to establish different varieties in his test bed. If you can help, contact Eric. There is also a possibility that Dr. Batty will give a talk on hops. He did hop research for Sierra Nevada.
Marks Simpsons Scotty 70 schilling will be tapped Thursday at Old Maine in Ames.
Mike England is the president for the Brewery Collectibles Club of America.
